Specializing in Pediatric Orthopaedic Treatments

Metatarsus Adductus, also called metatarsus varus, is a congenital foot deformity where the front half of the foot is turned inward. This deformity is typically visible at birth.

Metatarsus Adductus is of two types - flexible(can be straightened up manually) and non-flexible (stiff foot).

The causes of Metatarsus Adductus are:

  • Family history
  • The position of the baby in the uterus
  • Lack of amniotic fluid
  • The curved shape of feet, with forefoot turned inwards, are signs of Metatarsus Adductus.

In mild cases, Metatarsus Adductus is treated either by stretching exercises or casts, or special shoes. For severe deformity, surgery is necessary to reshape the foot.
