Holistic treatment for Erb’s Palsy

Specializing in Pediatric Orthopaedic Treatments

Erb's Palsy is a birth injury in which nerves at the base of the baby’s neck are damaged during delivery resulting in full or partial paralysis in the baby’s arm.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Erb's Palsy is typically classified into four categories, which are -

  • Neuropraxia
  • Neuroma
  • Rupture
  • Avulsions.
  • The underlying cause of Erb's Palsy is an injury to the upper group of the main nerve cluster of the arms that may be because of medical negligence or malpractice during the delivery process.

Primary symptoms of Erb's Palsy to look for are immobility, decreased reflexes, pain, lack of feeling, decreased grip strength, and muscle weakness in the affected arm.

In severe cases, if Erb's Palsy is not treated, it results in paralysis and nerve damage in the arm.

Most newborns with Erb's Palsy recover on their own by the age of 2 years. Daily physical therapy and minor motion exercises are nonsurgical treatments for Erb's Palsy.

In case of failing at this, nerve microsurgery is conducted to restore normal function and rectify the deformity.
